Marvin gaye park
I also loved that there were a few community vegetable gardens along the way. I enjoyed stopping at the signs to learn more about Black history. Friendly neighborhood! Stretching nearly two miles across Northeast Washington, the park occupies a stretch of green stream valley along Watts Branch—the largest tributary to the Anacostia River within the District of Columbia.
The bike path was paved and mostly flat with a few inclines that added a nice bit of variety. It leads you to a pair of stairs. The recreation center was fire. If you like, when you get back, you can visit the Marvin Gaye Recreation Center.
Marvin Gaye Park is a mile greenway and trail system in DC's Far Northeast, named after the legendary singer. This is a great bike trail with convenient CaBi stations along the way! I went ahead and cycled it. I was freshly showered and had just left the gym and decided to come and knockout this trail.
Learn how it was restored from a neglected and dangerous place to a park for all people. Unfortunately, the bike docks were mostly empty, so check the CaBi app before heading over. I followed this path using the AllTrails map but it was a bit inaccurate towards the end.
Mostly shaded and cool. If you feel comfortable in a city or urban setting like me then this is a short and sweet 4 mile ride. They have outdoor workout stations where you can do calisthenics and other types of exercises. I did it alone but other women may feel nervous about this trail.

Beautiful fall foliage Cool fitness stations Convenient city location to two metro stations. We loved seeing the nods to Marvin Gaye, including the very cute music-themed playground. The dog walkers were very friendly and courteous.
All of the dogs were on leashes and the owners moved to the sides allow my bike to pass. The trail was low-key empty except for a few people walking their dog. I walked my bike down the stairs to continue the path to the end but ended up improvising and taking a slightly different route to get back.
As one of the city’s most important park revitalization projects, the District completed capital improvements to Marvin Gaye Park. Learn about the history, revitalization and features of Marvin Gaye Park, the longest municipal park in Washington, D.C.
The park is named after the late singer who grew up near the park and wrote songs there. It also has a little splash pad for small kids. The trail has about 3 or 4 small playgrounds along the way. We used Capitol Heights station bikes and rode them to the trailhead.
All of this is within walking distance of the Capital Heights Metro Station.
